When, how and why did you get started with us?
At the end of 2021, I was chatting with my friend (Em) about the parts of athletics I missed, and she suggested that I try CrossFit, which she had been enjoying. It took about nine months before I actually went, but I enjoyed my first class. I came on and off for the next six months, and then over the 22/23 summer holidays, needing to fill the time, I started coming more regularly and have yet to look back!
What would be your dream workout?
I am a sprinter at heart; I like any workout that involves short periods of high-intensity effort and then a break, whether that be a heavy lift, unbroken gymnastic reps or machine/run sprint efforts.
What workout would you want to avoid? Well, my least favourite movement would be burpees, echo bike and any run effort that isn't considered a sprint. Also, I very much dislike extended periods stuck on one movement. I heard there was once an open workout that was just 7 minutes of burpees so I'm glad I never did that. Only once have I not come to class purely because of the workout, and while I can't remember what the workout was exactly, I know it involved a 2x 1 mile run and way too many burpees required to be completed before moving onto another movement.
Favourite Crossfit Athlete?
Who wouldn't pick our very own Em! Not only is she doing amazing, but to see her go from, when I first met her, actively hiding her disability as much as possible to creating a platform where she is sharing videos about how she adapts her training and the cool things she is able to do, reminds me of what we can achieve when we see what makes us different as a strength.
What's the best thing you own that costs under $100?
I do love my little gym backpack and everyone is always surprised by how much stuff manages to fit in there!
Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made?
I'm sure there are plenty, however, they have all been banished to the back of the mind.
Favourite quote?
If you never try, you'll never know.
What's your fav 90s jam?
I am terrible with music! Put a song on, and I'll sing along to it and give you a little dance, but ask me to name any song, even one I've had on repeat for the last month, and I'm out. I wouldn't even know the name of the song at the top of my Spotify wrap.
What was the last thing you watched on TV?
The, questionable at times, 2024 Olympics opening ceremony- London 2012 was still my favourite though.
The funniest thing that happened to you recently?
Our printer at work was broken for over a week and so we had asked another office if we would print to theirs. The problem was that every single printer in the building is the same and labelled as such (e.g., Xerox 1234) meaning that we had to guess which printer was the right one. This resulted in one office unexpectedly receiving a pile of pictures of different farm animals. When we found out, we thought this was pretty hilarious, although the office was very upset and more concerned about the 'waste' of their printing budget for the 5 pages printed with colour photos.

If you could have another CrossFit Claremont members attribute, what would it be?
Nate has a way of making every single member feel welcome and can switch how he interacts with each person depending on their needs. This is an amazing quality, and I can only hope that one day I have at least some of that ability to make others feel the same way.
