When, how and why did you get started with us? I started in July 2019. I used to drive past the gym on my way to a mums n bubs exercise class in Nedlands and think to myself, ‘If that was my gym I’d shave 5 minutes off my commute’. Then I realised there would be free childminding thanks to the Nintendo and I was hooked. More seriously though I used to have lots of back pain and I really wanted to work on my core and back strength to help with this. Since I started Crossfit I have eliminated back pain which has been amazing for me. Improved leg strength means I rarely get knee pain when I run, which is another huge bonus. What would be your dream workout? I dunno, I quite like the stuff I am bad at, like weightlifting. Definitely more high rep, lower weight than heavy though. Kettlebell snatches are kinda fun. What workout would you want to avoid? Anything involving the goddamn Echo Bike. Favourite Crossfit Athlete? I don’t know anything about the famous athletes. I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite from the 6am crew. Special mention to Harriet the dog. What's the best thing you own that cost under $100? My Aeropress coffee plunger. Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made? It’s hard to find a winner from a disaster-prone decade growing up in the 80s. I once had a jumper with huge shoulder pads and the boys at school teased me about looking like a gridiron player. I like to think they were just jealous. Favourite quote? “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” Dalai Lama. What's your fav 90s jam? Scooby Snacks - not really my absolute fav, but I heard it recently and it reminded me of good times playing beach volleyball in the 90s. The organisers seemed to only own one CD they would play every week and that song was on it. Last thing you watched on TV? I don’t watch much TV, probably a re-run of “Would I Lie to You?” Funniest thing that happened to you recently? At a bbq I leaned in to kiss a friend on the cheek but he was going for that half hug thing some people do. We sort of collided in the middle and somehow I kissed him rather firmly on the ear. When I say ‘friend’, I mean work colleague. When I say ‘work’, I mean husband’s work. Super awkward but funny in hindsight. Before that there was this time I walked into a gym and saw the surgeon who had operated on me a few months prior… Most used emoji? 😆 If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be? Coach Kat’s abs.
