When, how and why did you get started with us?
I started in 2013 at the old location when my eldest child turned one as a way to get my fitness back after having a baby. It has and will always be the highlight of my day.
What would be your dream workout?
I remember rocking up for a trial at the crossfit gym I joined when we lived in the US and the workout was Nancy (5 rounds, 400m run, 15 overhead squats) and I knew I had it covered. I love that work out! It could only be improved if it had front rack walking lunges.
What workout would you want to avoid?
Deadlifts and handstand pushups.
Favourite Crossfit Athlete?
All the girls of the gym are my favorite crossfit athletes (boys I love you too) but when I see women like Barb and Ciara at the gym it makes me so happy. With all that they have going on at home with new babies, jobs and busy lives they still bring such positive vibes and work their butts off.
What's the best thing you own that cost under $100?
My veggie garden. I have an abundance of virtually free (only costs is time) homegrown, organic greens that feed me and my family every single day.
Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made?
In year 8 I started a new school and on the first free dress day I wore hemp, rainbow, tie dye pants. Kids are mean, I never recovered from that.
Favourite quote?
I just finished reading ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’ and something that really resonated with me was the quote “Action isn’t just the effect of motivation; it’s also the cause of it”. You are never going to always feel like doing…the work out…reading the bedtime story… tidying your house…..fill in the blank…but by sucking it up and doing it anyway, it has far reaching effects. My husband is a master of this and has really shown me what is possible.
What's your favourite 90s jam?
Offspring ‘pretty fly’. I used to know the whole dance from the video clip (remember the girls painted gold) I pulled it out at all the parties.
Last thing you watched on TV?
The Pharmacist a Netflix Docuseries on the opioid epidemic in the US, scary stuff.
The funniest thing that happened to you recently?
Busted doing push ups in the bathroom before a presentation I had to give at university a few weeks ago. Pushups help calm my nerves and weirdly slow my heart rate, but it was hard to explain that to the shocked students.
Most used emoji?
😬, mostly sent to Sully when I’m explaining/apologising for all the things I’ve over committed us to.
If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be?
Nates delts and triceps. Although they would look weird on me I think shoulders are intimidating and that’s what I’m chasing!
**We ask for a picture if people prefer** For a laugh, I thought I’d share with you a photo and story that only a few people know. When I was in second year uni I won the showcase on the price is right. This is me as a 22 year old in the Alpha Romeo that I won. Never drove it, sold it immediately and bought a house. Was always sensible like that.
