Member of the Month June 2019 1/2: Kate Malcolm

When, how and why did you get started with us? December 2017 when I moved back to Perth after living overseas.

The CrossFit gym I use to go to closed down whilst I was away. I knew a few people from that gym had joined CrossFit Claremont and had a few mates that were members at Nedlands and had popped in for a few Saturday classes way back in the day with them. Mates said Crossfit Claremont had good coaches, good programming and a good vibe, their description was pretty accurate in my opinion. What would be your dream workout? A 20min AMRAP with power cleans, wall balls and double Unders. What workout would you want to avoid? Anything with overhead squats or man-makers. Favourite Crossfit Athlete? My Mum. Our old CrossFit gym did a 300m warm up run at the start of every class and for the first month or two she couldn’t even run the whole 300m. That didn’t stop her coming back to class every day. Now she can double under better than most people, easily deadlifts 80kg and can do a strict pull up. She is completely oblivious to how amazing she is. (editor note, this is amazing!)

What's the best thing you own that cost under $100? Jar of coconut oil. Use it for everything. Cooking, making raw treats, moisturiser, beauty treatments, massage oil, cleaning and removing stains. Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made? Probably on the weekend, dressing up as a kid from the 90s for Kate Garners birthday, complete with butterfly clips and a chocker. Stupid idea trying to pull off a kid costume when you have more than a few grey hairs. Favourite quote? I have a few but one favourite is “life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”.

What's your fav 90s jam? No diggity by Blackstreet Last thing you watched on TV? The Project on Channel 10 Funniest thing that happened to you recently? I work on St George’s Terrace which is a wind tunnel. Waiting at the traffic lights to cross with intersection at lunchtime peak hour with at least 50 other people. Hands are full with my bag, client files, a coffee and trying to send a msg on my phone. Gush of wind and flash everyone, thankfully wearing appropriate nickers. Then in attempt to hold my dress down for some decency, drop my phone, client files and bag. Everyone just walked by and didn’t even offer to help me. Most used emoji? 😂🤦‍♀️ If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be? Coach Kats abs
