Sunday 03.09.17 - 2/2 Member of the Month: Marshall Allen

My first contact with Marshall came when I went over to apologise about people parking in his car spots. I was expecting to be put on blast but surprisingly he was very kind and not too worried. Even though we are no longer neighbours with him and the rest of the Viburnum crew it's hasn't stopped him being a huge part of the community. With an almost weekly international flight schedule you wouldn't find too many people around that have dropped in to as many CrossFit boxes around the world as Marshall! When, how and why did you get started with us? Mid 2015 when our guys went next door (at Carrington St) and arranged a trial. I was dragged in there as a sceptic knowing nothing about CrossFit but haven’t been able to get rid of the love / hate relationship ever since. What would be your dream workout? Doubles and Thrusters – 17.5. Sticking with the Love/Hate thing – I hated the workout but loved the fact that I could get it done – although I may have fallen flat on my arse on the last DU but Dan still counted it. What workout would you want to avoid? That could be any of the many (gymnastic) things I still can’t do. Most people would expect me to avoid running but just because I suck at running, I try not to avoid it. My worst hate is probably weighted lunges of any sort. Favourite Crossfit Athlete: Lucas Parker & his beard. Whats the best thing you own that cost under $100? Knee sleeves – I’m not sure if they do anything other than muffle the sound of my knees creaking and crackling so I can’t hear them and think they are still young. Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made: My wife would say that most things I wear are fashion mistakes but I’ll go with double breasted suits and braces – Gordon Gekko style but unfortunately without the wealth. Favourite quote: “Its just a flesh wound” - anything Monty Python or Faulty Towers (“Is this a bit of your brain?”). What’s your fav 90s jam: This was tough as most things I came up with were actually from the 70’s or 80’s (e.g. Pink Floyd or the Cure). Probably Thunderstruck (ACDC) or Teen Spirit (Nirvana). Grace will confirm that both are on my XF playlist. Last thing you watched on TV: 24 Hours in Emergency Funniest thing that happened to you recently: Arriving at Grace’s graduation “with ample time” only to have the doors shut right behind us – half an hour later than when we should have been there. 4 years and she almost didn’t graduate because we were enjoying dinner. Most used emoji: :) There’s more than one? If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be? Dave V’s upper body and Junko’s spirit! Workout of the Day: Rest Day.
